Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. (Matthew 25:37-40)
The Silas First Baptist Church Men's Ministry encourages all the men of Silas to participate in personal charitable giving. We are called to be leaders, and our model for leadership is none other than Christ himself. Christ teaches us that if we would lead, we must serve. We serve as we are able (including our time, effort, finances, and prayers), but most importantly, as we are led by the Holy Spirit.
Individual contributions can be made to the Ripple Project by simply indicating "Ripple Project" on your tithe and offering envelope in whatever amount you are led to give. A suggested amount is $1.00 per week. The contributions are pooled and regular contributions are made from this collection. Currently, we are supporting: Feed the Children.
Feed The Children is a Christian, international, non-profit relief organization founded by Larry and Frances Jones in 1979, whose stated mission is "to deliver food, medicine, clothing and other necessities to individuals, children and families who lack these essentials due to famine, war, poverty or natural disaster". Last year, Feed The Children shipped 183 million pounds of food and other essentials to children and families in all 50 states and internationally. During its 27 year history, Feed The Children has worked in 118 countries around the globe.
Feed The Children is currently the ninth largest charity in the United States, according to the Chronicle of Philanthropy, based on private support. Feed The Children has earned a four-star rating from Charity Navigator. Additionally, it meets all of the BBB Wise Giving Alliance's Standards for Charity Accountability.
We are happy to report that through Feed the Children, charitable contributions from Silas have touched the lives of many children in great need. It is our hope that God will bless us to do more and more! To God be the glory!
In addition to Feed the Children, We hope to begin supporting a local charity in the near future. Our objective is to positively impact the lives of youth and young adults in communities close to Silas. We are striving to be obedient to the exhortation from Matthew 5:16: "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
